Tour Highlights
1-The Stilt Village Excursion
You will board a local motorized community boat to cruise past hundreds of traditional houses build high up sledder wooden pillars.
What you will see: Daily local life happening right over the water -residents scaling swinging ladders, fishmen preparing nets, children traveling to school by boat, and even small floating markets where sellers hawk vegetables and fruit from wooden canoes.
2-The floated Mangrove Forest
Near the edge of the village lies a dense, protected mangrove forest that becomes completely submerged when the lake is high.
The Experience: You will transfer from the larger motorized boat into a small, traditional wooden rowing boat (usually paddled by local women from the community). It is an incredibly peaceful, quiet ride beneath the canopy of the flooded trees.
3-Entering the Great Tonle Sap Lake
After passing the forest, your main boat opens up into the massive expanse of the Tonle Sap Lakeβthe largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. It feels like entering an ocean.
Morning vs. Sunset Tours Most operators or private drivers offer two slots:
- Morning Tour (approx. 8:00 AM β 1:00 PM): Cooler weather and highly active local trading. You get a clear, bright look at daily village life and local markets.
- Afternoon / Sunset Tour (approx. 2:00 PM β 7:30 PM): This is the most popular choice. After exploring the village and the forest, the boat takes you out onto the open waters of Tonle Sap Lake to watch the sunset over the water, creating a stunning reflection.
Practical Tips for Your Floating Village Trip
- Supporting the Community: By booking a tour with us, you utilize the official local community boat association. This directly ensures that your tourism dollars go straight back into supporting the families, schools, and infrastructure of Kompong Phluk.
- Dress Code: There are active local pagodas (temples) inside the village community. Make sure your shoulders and knees are covered out of respect if you plan to step off the boat onto sacred temple grounds.
- What to Pack: Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and insect repellent (especially important for sunset tours).
